My Next Chapter

June 8, 2012 will be my last day attending CSUB.  I am extremely excited to be graduating.  Although I have been in school for almost five years, I still can’t believe how fast it has come to an end.

I am ready to be done, but I know I will also miss school and my professors.  I know that it is time for me to start pursuing a career as a sports broadcaster.  I have enjoyed studying journalism and I want to continue to learn as much as I can about every aspect of the industry.

Once school is over I will be looking into internships throughout different television networks.  My goal is to obtain a job and work my way up to broadcasting for a successful company one day.

Once I have experience I feel that I will be able to succeed as a sports broadcaster.  “I know you will follow your dream and become a successful broadcaster one day,” said John Adamczyk, my father.  I have had so much support from my family, friends and professors throughout my journey.  I am a very lucky individual and don’t know where I would be without these people in my life.  I am ready to end a chapter of my life and begin a new one.

Memorial Day Weekend

This Memorial Day weekend I am going to be spending three nights at Paradise Lakes.  Paradise Lakes is located in Bakersfield, California.  Two of my really good friends, Alexis Biaforia and Codie Tomlinson, both have homes surrounding the lakes.

Paradise Lakes consists of three ski lakes that are used for wakeboarding, tubing, water skiing and jet skiing.  My favorite activities to do on the lakes are wakeboarding and tubing.

The good thing about these lakes is that only one boat is allowed on each lake at a time.  This makes gives the water skier or wakeboarder extremely still water so that they can perform to the best of their ability rather than being on a lake with hundreds of other boats.  The lakes are very narrow and long, which gives the perfect shape for all boating activities.  Since there are many homes that surround the lake you have to take turns by rotating the boats through all three lakes.

I am not very good at wakeboarding; however, these lakes make it easier for me to learn.  Aside from being on the lake we also have dirt bikes that we take out and ride in the desert.  I can’t wait for my first wakeboard run of the season, to be able to relax and be pulled around on the tube and to then take a break from the water to ride dirt bikes.

Mother's Day

This past Sunday was Mother’s Day.  My whole family is really close so in order to celebrate we all got together at my mom’s house for a barbeque.  All of the children prepared a bunch of different food dishes and dips to bring over.

We were celebrating Mother’s Day for not only my mom, but also for my oldest sister, Angi, who has two sons. My sister has also been like a mother to me since we are eleven years a part.  They are both amazing mothers who deserve to be recognized for all that they have done for their children.

My mom, my two sisters and I are all best friends.  We have a really strong relationship and get a long really well.  The older we get the more fun we all have hanging out and talking together.

Our day consisted of stuffing our faces with all sorts of food and drinks as well as relaxing in the pool.  We spend a lot of time at my mom’s house, especially in the summer. “I love any excuse for having everyone over at my house to hang out,” said Dawn Rovo, my mother.  It was a perfect way for the whole family to get together and celebrate Mother’s Day.

Annie Comes to Visit

My roommate, Whitney, is originally from Michigan and recently graduated from Michigan State University.  Shortly after graduating she moved to California and her and I got an apartment together.

Since she has been here all of her friends from back home have wanted to come visit.  One of her best friends, Annie, decided to come and stay with us for a few days.  I had heard so much about her for years while Whitney attended Michigan State with her.  I was excited to finally get to meet one of her good friends from home.

The moment I met her we both knew we would get along just fine.  Whitney and I took her to a Cinco de Mayo pool party at our friend’s house where she got to meet all of our friends.  Everyone welcomed her right into the group and we all had a great time.

The weekend flew by and before we knew it we were dropping her off at the airport to head back to her hometown of Chicago.  “It’s your turn for you and your friends to come visit me now,” Annie said to Whitney.  Whitney and I are now in the works of planning a trip to visit her in Chicago.  I have only been one time and would love to travel to Chicago, especially now that I am older.

Molly

Since the weather has been warm I have been trying to get my dog, Molly, to learn how to swim.  She is a Tibetan Terrier and Wheaten Terrier mix.  We have had her for over five years now and we have not been able to get her near the water.

She is the princess in the house and is spoiled more than my sisters and I combined.  “Molly Polly is our baby,” said Dawn Rovo.  My mom, Dawn Rovo, has a pool in her backyard and every summer we try to get Molly to go in, however, we also don’t want to force her.  The reason that I want her to learn to swim so badly is because I am afraid she will fall in one day while no one is home and not know how to get out.
I have started to have a little success with her this year.  I am able to bribe her with a snack and she has started to work her way down the stairs in the shallow end.  Since she will do anything for people food I feel that I will be successful with this approach.  My goal this summer is to have her fully swimming and wanting to go in on her own.

Salon Glo

Salon Glo is a hair salon that opened in August 2009.  It is located in Valencia, CA in the Bridgeport Marketplace.

The Salon Glo reception desk is located in the front of the salon.  This is where appointments and purchases are made.  The owner, Dan Csicsai, was a finalist for a North American Hairstyling Award.  The three portraits that hang behind the reception desk are the hairstyles that Dan created on the models.

The white room is where all the cutting and styling of the hair takes place.  The unique display of all white was designed to create a fresh, new look for the clients.

A stylist at work displaying the salon's theme color, purple, which matches the glowing black light that lines the whole inner salon.

Not only does Salon Glo specialize in hair, but they also offer professional make-up to their clients.

The purple and black displayed in the color room show the drastic process that takes place while color is being applied.  The darkness of the room highlights the glow feature, which is symbolic to the salon name, Glo. "I wanted the salon to be unique and stand out from any other salon and I think we have accomplished just that," said Dan Csicsai.

The unique shampoo bowls allow the stylists to stand behind their client and provide a relaxing shampoo with their professional products.

The dryers are used after the color is applied to help speed up the processing of the color in the client's hair.

The salon provides enough space for many clients to be accommodated at the same time.  Salon Glo welcomes anyone looking to create a unique, new style.

Las Vegas

This weekend I will be in Las Vegas with my best friend, Whitney LeMieux.  We are going to be staying at the Mandalay Bay hotel, which neither of us have ever stayed at before.  We have been looking forward to this trip and have many events lined up to keep our weekend busy.

My boss, Mike Petersen, who is also a close family friend, will also be in Las Vegas this weekend with his wife.  While we are there, my boss is going to be treating us to two shows, one on Friday night and one on Saturday night, followed by dinner.  We are not sure which shows we are attending as he is keeping them a secret.  “I want you girls to be surprise each night for the shows that we are taking you to,” said Mike Petersen.

Not only will we be busy in the evening with shows and dinners, but during the day we will also be spending time at the pool.  The Mandalay Bay is home to the only wave pool on the strip.

The weather is supposed to be in the high 80s, which is a perfect way to get ready for the summer.  I look forward to this weekend and all the events that will be taking place.

My Nephew

My oldest nephew, Trent King, turned 15 this past Saturday.  I can’t believe that next year he will be driving.  I feel like just yesterday he was in diapers.  I am so lucky to have him in my life and I love spending as much time with him as possible.

On Saturday my whole family took him and two of his friends to Universal Studios City Walk.  We had dinner at Jullians, which is a restaurant and arcade.  We all enjoyed a nice dinner and got to squeeze in some arcade games before we moved on to the most important event of the night, iFly.  It was fun taking my little nephew, Gavin King, around to play the games and win tickets.

We then moved on to the next exciting event, iFly, which is in door skydiving.  Wind is blown through a vent that is powerful enough to shoot you up off the ground and keep you floating in the air.  My family and I had so much fun watching Trent and his friends do the iFly.  “It was actually harder then it looked,” said Trent King.

It was not only fun watching Trent enjoy his birthday with his friends, but it was also fun to get the whole family together.

Weddings

Over the past two months I have witnessed two of my best friends become engaged to their long-term boyfriends.  It has been almost more exciting for me as it has been for the two of them.

My best friend, Heather Bost, got engaged to her boyfriend of eight years, Collin Davis, on Valentines Day.  I have been friends with both Heather and Collin for over 10 years.  I could not be happier for them and have been given the honor to stand up in their wedding as a bridesmaid.

The most recent engagement that I have witnessed is not only one of my best friends, but also my sister, Lisa.  Her boyfriend of over five years, Ryan Landy, proposed to her on April Fools Day.  The most exciting part for me was that no one knew it was coming.  “I had the ring picked out for three weeks and was just waiting for the perfect moment,” said Ryan Landy.  I also have the honor of standing up in her wedding as her maid of honor.

Although this is an extremely exciting time for both Heather and Lisa, I have been over whelmed with excitement as well.  I am so excited to be planning two weddings that will both take place next summer.  It will be a busy year, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.
