Memorial Day Weekend

This Memorial Day weekend I am going to be spending three nights at Paradise Lakes.  Paradise Lakes is located in Bakersfield, California.  Two of my really good friends, Alexis Biaforia and Codie Tomlinson, both have homes surrounding the lakes.

Paradise Lakes consists of three ski lakes that are used for wakeboarding, tubing, water skiing and jet skiing.  My favorite activities to do on the lakes are wakeboarding and tubing.

The good thing about these lakes is that only one boat is allowed on each lake at a time.  This makes gives the water skier or wakeboarder extremely still water so that they can perform to the best of their ability rather than being on a lake with hundreds of other boats.  The lakes are very narrow and long, which gives the perfect shape for all boating activities.  Since there are many homes that surround the lake you have to take turns by rotating the boats through all three lakes.

I am not very good at wakeboarding; however, these lakes make it easier for me to learn.  Aside from being on the lake we also have dirt bikes that we take out and ride in the desert.  I can’t wait for my first wakeboard run of the season, to be able to relax and be pulled around on the tube and to then take a break from the water to ride dirt bikes.

Mother's Day

This past Sunday was Mother’s Day.  My whole family is really close so in order to celebrate we all got together at my mom’s house for a barbeque.  All of the children prepared a bunch of different food dishes and dips to bring over.

We were celebrating Mother’s Day for not only my mom, but also for my oldest sister, Angi, who has two sons. My sister has also been like a mother to me since we are eleven years a part.  They are both amazing mothers who deserve to be recognized for all that they have done for their children.

My mom, my two sisters and I are all best friends.  We have a really strong relationship and get a long really well.  The older we get the more fun we all have hanging out and talking together.

Our day consisted of stuffing our faces with all sorts of food and drinks as well as relaxing in the pool.  We spend a lot of time at my mom’s house, especially in the summer. “I love any excuse for having everyone over at my house to hang out,” said Dawn Rovo, my mother.  It was a perfect way for the whole family to get together and celebrate Mother’s Day.

Annie Comes to Visit

My roommate, Whitney, is originally from Michigan and recently graduated from Michigan State University.  Shortly after graduating she moved to California and her and I got an apartment together.

Since she has been here all of her friends from back home have wanted to come visit.  One of her best friends, Annie, decided to come and stay with us for a few days.  I had heard so much about her for years while Whitney attended Michigan State with her.  I was excited to finally get to meet one of her good friends from home.

The moment I met her we both knew we would get along just fine.  Whitney and I took her to a Cinco de Mayo pool party at our friend’s house where she got to meet all of our friends.  Everyone welcomed her right into the group and we all had a great time.

The weekend flew by and before we knew it we were dropping her off at the airport to head back to her hometown of Chicago.  “It’s your turn for you and your friends to come visit me now,” Annie said to Whitney.  Whitney and I are now in the works of planning a trip to visit her in Chicago.  I have only been one time and would love to travel to Chicago, especially now that I am older.

Molly

Since the weather has been warm I have been trying to get my dog, Molly, to learn how to swim.  She is a Tibetan Terrier and Wheaten Terrier mix.  We have had her for over five years now and we have not been able to get her near the water.

She is the princess in the house and is spoiled more than my sisters and I combined.  “Molly Polly is our baby,” said Dawn Rovo.  My mom, Dawn Rovo, has a pool in her backyard and every summer we try to get Molly to go in, however, we also don’t want to force her.  The reason that I want her to learn to swim so badly is because I am afraid she will fall in one day while no one is home and not know how to get out.
I have started to have a little success with her this year.  I am able to bribe her with a snack and she has started to work her way down the stairs in the shallow end.  Since she will do anything for people food I feel that I will be successful with this approach.  My goal this summer is to have her fully swimming and wanting to go in on her own.
